You want to make an amazing record.
I can help you make it happen. You don't have to go to a multi-million dollar facility with tons of vintage analog gear to get a great sound. It also means that you don't have to take out a second mortgage to pay your bill. You'll get a great sound at a great price.
Here's how it works:
- Request to book a date (I only book sessions on Friday evenings or Saturdays).
- Pay your session fee to reserve your date.
- You can book either 4 hour or 8 hour tracking sessions.
- After tracking is complete I'll start mixing and mastering your songs (I'll bill you a flat fee per song—no suprises).

Answers to your questions
How long does it take to record a song?
This can be a tricky question to answer. One of the biggest factors is how well prepared you are when you come into the studio and another is how picky you are. :) Years ago I learned that a good rule of thumb was that you should expect to spend around 3 hours of time in the studio for every minute of finished audio. So if you have a three minute song, you would expect to be in the studio for around 9 hours. This should help you get a rough idea of what to budget for your project.
How does booking work?
Contact me to request a date that you would like to book. I only book sessions on Friday evenings (only in the Waterloo area), or on Saturdays (anywhere in Iowa). I'll confirm your date and then ask you to pay the session fee up front. If you want me to travel outside of Waterloo, then I'll ask you to cover some travel expenses. The first 30 miles are on me. After that I charge $0.60 per mile.
Do you book shorter sessions?
At this time I only do 4 hour or 8 hour sessions. Since I only book on the weekends and I only do on-location sessions—it just doesn't make sense for me to pack up all my gear and setup for a short session.
What do I need to do to prepare for the session?
Pick a location
You will be responsible for arranging a location to hold the session. We can setup in a church, your living room, a basement, or wherever you want. You will want to make sure to find the quietest place you can.
Practice
Make sure to put in some extra practice for your session. Come prepared. Don't get stressed about it, though. You'll be fine.
What if I don't have a place to hold a session?
I can help you figure something out. There are a few locations in the Cedar Valley that we could look at.
What happens after tracking is complete?
I'll work on mixing and mastering your songs. When I'm done I'll send you your final bill. Mixing and mastering costs $100/song.
What if I want to mix the recordings myself?
You're welcome to take the audio files with you and mix them on your own.
